Special Ministers of the Holy Communion (SMHC)
Considered as the most privileged volunteers, the Special Ministers of the Holy Communion have access to the Blessed Sacrament and are allowed to hold the Body of Christ. They are also called Communion Stewards because they assist the priest in distributing Holy Communion. They are also deputized to impose the ashes on the forehead of the faithful on Ash Wednesdays.
